PDRN. Exosomes. Growth factors. They’re the three regenerative actives every premium skincare brand is talking about right now. They all promise cellular renewal. They’re all genuinely backed by science. And they all do different things.
Here’s the comparison without the marketing fog.
What each one actually is
PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide)
Fragments of DNA — most commonly derived from salmon — that bind to cell receptors and signal repair, regeneration and collagen synthesis. The most-studied of the three for topical use. Approved as a medical device in several markets for wound healing.
Exosomes
Microscopic vesicles released by cells. Think of them as biological text messages — they carry signals (proteins, growth factors, microRNA) from one cell to another. In skincare, they’re typically derived from stem cells and used to deliver regeneration signals to skin.
Growth Factors
Proteins that directly signal skin cells to grow, divide and produce structural proteins. The most concentrated form of cellular signalling. Powerful, but unstable in formula — they degrade fast.
Side by side
| PDRN | Exosomes | Growth Factors | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it does | Signals repair + activates fibroblasts | Delivers complex bio-signals between cells | Directly instructs cells to grow / repair |
| Source | Salmon DNA (or plant) | Stem cells (plant or human) | Recombinant proteins, plant or human |
| Stability in formula | High | Medium | Low — degrades quickly |
| Clinical track record | 20+ years | 5–7 years for topical | 15+ years |
| Best for | Repair, firming, sensitive skin, brightening | Renewal, texture, dullness | Visible wrinkles, structural change |
| Irritation risk | Very low | Low | Low |
The hierarchy in plain English
Think of it as a construction site:
- PDRN is the raw material + foreman — supplies the building blocks and tells fibroblasts to start building.
- Exosomes are the courier service — they shuttle complex instructions between cells (“make more of this protein, slow down inflammation here”).
- Growth factors are the direct order — the foreman shouting “start producing collagen now.”
None of them are interchangeable. They work at different points in the same process.
Why concentration is half the story
You’ll see brands competing on PPM (parts per million) of PDRN. Medicube quotes 10,000 ppm. VT Cosmetics quotes 100,000 ppm. Lower-end serums quote 1,000 ppm or just “contains PDRN.”
Here’s what nobody tells you: concentration without delivery is meaningless. The PDRN molecule is large — too large to penetrate intact skin from a topical serum. Without a delivery system, most of that 100,000 ppm sits on your face and goes nowhere.
Our PulseRenew uses 5,000 PPM of Salmon PDRN paired with Micro-Spicule delivery — marine-derived microscopic structures that create temporary channels in the skin’s outer layer so PDRN actually reaches fibroblasts in the lower layers. A formulated 5,000 PPM that penetrates beats an unformulated 50,000 PPM that doesn’t.
Can you use all three together?
Yes — and you probably already are. Most premium serums combine actives.
Our GlowSerum includes exosomes alongside Niacinamide, peptides, ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid. Use it morning and night, layered over PulseRenew at night.
The result is a routine that hits all three regenerative pathways:
- PDRN from PulseRenew — fibroblast activation, collagen support, cell turnover
- Exosomes from GlowSerum — cell signalling, renewal
- Peptide complex from GlowSerum — structural protein synthesis
Which should you choose first?
Start with PDRN if:
- You have sensitive skin
- You’re new to actives
- Your concern is firming, brightening, or repairing
- You’re post-procedure or post-pregnancy
Add exosomes if:
- You want overall renewal + brightening
- Your skin looks dull or feels stuck
Look for growth factors if:
- You’re targeting deep wrinkles specifically
- You’ve already nailed the basics and want to add a pro-level layer
The simplest entry point
